I actually desperately want a Honda Civic

I never thought in a million years I would want a base model Honda Civic. But this car looks outstanding, it has every tech goodie you could ever need, it gets amazing gas mileage, and it makes me think there is hope in the world for cheap and cheerful transportation. I am not really sure this car has a fault and the Civic Si is going to be a real show stopper if it is half as good as this new Civic. I usually try to stick to American cars but I think I would take this Civic over any new small or midsize on the market.

Did I mention from this angle it kinda looks like an A7?

I test drove one two weeks ago and didn’t like it. I think it’s too big, and I found the handling sluggish. I also didn’t like the CVT. Of course, your mileage may vary. The tech stuff was impressive, though. We ended up getting a 2013 Civic EX-L.

Okay, if you like it I guess. It looks like they welded a Crossover front end onto a mid-size sedan body. Look how tall that hood is and that stupid chrome bar grille just makes it look even worse. It’s also gotten so big it’s a midsize car now. I liked the EF and EG Civics and maybe the EK too for being fun to drive while being basic transportation, but after that they became boring, watered down cheap set of wheels.

The CVT could be cured with a manual and I actually heard it wasn’t that bad but I haven’t driven one so I really can’t have a say.

Cheap transportation is everywhere. It depends what you want paired with cheap transportation. Do you want lots of room in a sedan body? That’s like the one thing this Civic has going for it right now. It got really big, so it has lots of space inside. But it also got really big, so it handles worse, gets less mpg than it should, and that weird descent from the high hood down to the lower beltline is cringeworthy.

Do you want cheap and fun or cheap and stylish transportation? Then there’s a better choice in the Mazda3. I mean, I’m the last person to kiss Mazda’s ass for any car except the Miata, but the new Mazda3 looks so damn good. It’s like when the Elantra debuted in 2010 and showed what a compact economy car can look like...the Mazda3 took it a step further in 2015. It looks like it could be a RWD car, the proportions and hood to dash ratio is so uncompromising for a FWD car. The lines flow like water down every inch of that car. The lines on this Civic? Like I said, crossover front end, sedan body. Very weird crossover point happening at the start of the windshield.

I don’t if they do tours of the factory itself, but they have an “experience” building as part of their huge ass fucking campus. Drove by it during a business trip I took over the summer to their Ohio plant.

Didn’t have time to go inside, but it’s probably got all kinds of Honda history in there.

Smart choice getting a 13. That still has the normal 5 speed auto!

I leased a 13 Civic LX. When the 14 came out, I drove one just to feel the CVT and really disliked it. The engine in that car didn’t work well with a CVT

Kinja'd!!! ttyymmnn > JQJ213- Now With An Extra Cylinder!
03/30/2016 at 17:18

Kinja'd!!!0

The 5 speed auto was one of the things I really liked. And even though it’s not the most powerful engine, it still feels light on its feet. I think the 2016, even with its more powerful engine, is too heavy. It just felt like it wanted to go straight.

Think “no shifting.” Like I said, it drives fine, and you can change the mapping for more power or more economy. I’m just a traditionalist. However, I’m sure the CVT is the wave of the future, and I’ll have to deal with it eventually.

Screw the haters, you like any four door honda on this site, and they will dislike it basically. I drove it, it’s amazing. It feels sporty and alive, even in the non-turbo. It’s been getting alot of postive reviews on websites because it has an old honda feel when it comes to the drive, which is true. Not old Honda Civic, but old accord (it’s gigantic compared to other civics). My only real complaint is how far the side mirrors are.

Also the interior is amazing, the 2012-2015 Civic had an awful mess of an interior. This is much better. My favourite civic Interior is still my model year (2006-2011) but this is a step in the right direction. And because of Honda, you still get alot of goodies in the base.

My civic doesn’t have a traditional speedo, but it doesn’t bother me. It has a traditional RPM gauge to make up for it. It makes the car seem higher-end than it is, a lot of people who don’t know about cars who come in my car think it’s futuristic or something.

I really really really like the new Civic. BUT - it needs to be a hatch. I though it *was* a hatch when I first saw it in real life. Even once I saw the trunk open my brain wouldn’t let me understand that it wasn’t a hatch.

It is quite a looker and a coupe or hatch with the turbo and 6-speed would be something I’d buy a few years from now, I saw a bright green coupe at the NYIAS and thought it looked pretty cool.
